Architecture lies at the intersection of art, science, engineering, and industry. Geometry has served as a common, visible, and tangible language that integrates the architectural process and bridges diverse disciplines; it is present from initial form-finding and planning through analysis, manufacturing, construction, post-occupancy monitoring, maintenance, renovation, and eventual demolition. Today, its role continues to evolve through geometric computing, environmental modeling, sensing, digital fabrication, and algorithmic processes that integrate input across disciplines. While geometry opens new horizons for architecture, architecture poses new questions for geometry itself. At this intersection, the research area of Architectural Geometry has emerged.
Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG) is a conference that presents theoretical and practical work advancing architectural geometry. It brings together architects, engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, software and algorithm designers, and contractors. The symposium is biennial, first held in Vienna in 2008 and 2010, then in Paris in 2012, London in 2014, Zurich in 2016, Gothenburg in 2018, Paris in 2020, Stuttgart in 2023, and Boston in 2025.
In 2027, AAG will take place in Asia for the first time at the University of Tokyo, Japan. AAG 2027 aims to connect architectural and engineering practice, academia, and industry through in-person interaction. We hope that interdisciplinary, flexible minds will gather in Tokyo to expand the scope of architectural geometry and shape its ongoing impact on future society.
